Level 2 EV Charger Installation

Home EV chargers wired by a licensed master electrician. Load calculation, ESA permit, fixed-price quote.

Level 2 EV Charger Installation

A Level 2 EV charger draws 30 to 50 amps continuously. That is a lot of load to add to an existing house, and almost every install starts with the same question: can your current panel actually handle it. We do the load calculation on day one, install the dedicated 240V circuit, mount and commission the charger, and pull the ESA permit so the work is on the record. If the panel needs an upgrade first, we tell you straight up and quote both together.

Often paired with panel upgrades, residential electrical, and energy-efficient lighting. We coordinate the whole job under a single permit when it makes sense.

What’s included

  • On-site load calculation to confirm your panel can support the charger
  • Dedicated 240V circuit sized to the charger spec (typically 40A or 50A)
  • NEMA 14-50 outlet OR hardwired install, your choice or per charger requirements
  • Indoor garage, outdoor wall-mount, or pedestal installation
  • Conduit run through the garage, wall, or trenched outdoors as needed
  • Wi-Fi commissioning of smart chargers (Tesla, ChargePoint, FLO, JuiceBox, and most other Level 2 brands)
  • GFCI protection and weatherproofing for outdoor installs
  • ESA permit pulled, inspection coordinated, certificate provided

When to call us

  • You just bought (or are about to buy) an EV and need to charge at home
  • You have been charging on a regular 120V plug and you’re tired of waking up to 40 km of range
  • Your dealer or charger manufacturer says you need a 240V circuit installed
  • You’re building or renovating and want the EV circuit roughed in before drywall
  • You want a hardwired install for a Tesla Wall Connector or similar

How it works

  1. 01
    On-site assessment

Brad reviews your existing panel, measures the run to where the charger is going, and confirms the load math. Most assessments take 20 minutes.

  2. 02
    Fixed-price quote

You get one number that covers the circuit, materials, permit, and labour. If a panel upgrade is required first, that piece is quoted separately so you can decide.

  3. 03
    Install day

Most Level 2 charger installs take a single half-day. We coordinate with you on indoor vs outdoor placement, conduit routing, and breaker location before we start.

  4. 04
    ESA sign-off

ESA inspects, the certificate is issued, and you have proper paperwork for your home insurer and any future buyer.

FAQ

EV Charger Installation: questions we hear most.

Real answers from a master electrician. If you don’t see yours, call directly and we’ll work through it.

How much does a Level 2 EV charger installation cost?
Cost depends mainly on the distance from your panel to the charger location, whether the run is indoors or requires outdoor weatherproofing and trenching, and the charger itself (plug-in vs hardwired, brand-specific requirements). If your panel needs to be upgraded first, that piece is quoted separately so you can decide. Brad walks the job, confirms the load math, and provides a fixed quote before any work starts.
Do I need to upgrade my electrical panel for an EV charger?
Often, yes. A Level 2 charger draws 30 to 50 amps continuously, and most older homes with 100-amp service are already close to capacity once you add a heat pump, induction range, or hot tub. The first step is always a load calculation. If you have 200-amp service and a typical Oshawa or Whitby home, a dedicated circuit is usually all you need.
NEMA 14-50 outlet or hardwired install: which is better?
Both work. NEMA 14-50 gives you flexibility (you can unplug and move the charger, take it on a trip), but hardwiring is required for some chargers like the Tesla Wall Connector at full output, and it eliminates a possible failure point. We help you decide based on the charger you bought and where it is being installed.
Can you install Tesla, ChargePoint, FLO, or another brand?
Yes. We install every major Level 2 home charger on the market: Tesla Wall Connector, ChargePoint Home Flex, FLO Home, JuiceBox, Wallbox, Grizzl-E, and others. The install is essentially the same; the brand mostly determines whether it’s plug-in or hardwired and where the Wi-Fi commissioning happens.
How long does a typical install take?
Most Level 2 charger installs on a home with existing 200-amp service take a single half-day. Garage installs are usually fastest. Long runs across a finished basement or trenched outdoor installs take longer. ESA inspection is usually scheduled within a few days after.
Do you pull the ESA permit?
Always. EV charger circuits require an ESA permit in Ontario, and we pull it under our ECRA license on every job. You receive the inspection certificate for your records and your home insurer.
